UTSA offensive coordinator Al Borges will not return in 2019, according to a report from Football Scoop.

Borges replaced Frank Scelfo as offensive coordinator before the 2018 season after a lengthy career involving coordinator stops at Auburn, Michigan and UCLA. However, UTSA’s offense took a big step back in his lone season.

The Roadrunners posted one of the worst offensive seasons in college football in 2018. UTSA ranked last nationally in total offense (247.1 yards per game), second-worst in yards per play (3.91) and second-worst in points per game (14.2). The program posted 140 fewer yards per game in 2018 than a year earlier.

Things got even worse down the stretch of conference play. Between Oct. 13 and Nov. 17, the Roadrunners scored more than seven points only once. Over a six-game losing streak to close the year, UTSA averaged just 8.5 points per game. UTSA quarterbacks only reached 200 yards in a game once, and no Roadrunner rushed for 100 yards in a game.

The Roadrunners finished the 2018 season with a 3-9 record, including 2-6 in Conference-USA in Wilson’s third season. The three-win campaign is the worst of UTSA coach Frank Wilson’s tenure, following a pair of six-win campaigns his first two years.

Wilson will now begin a national search for his third offensive coordinator in four seasons.
