Houston quarterback D’Eriq King left the Cougars’ conference matchup against Tulane with a noncontact injury before the half. King was carted off the field before the half up 28-9 against the Green Wave.

In his place, the Cougars inserted Hebron true freshman Clayton Tune. He led the Cougars to a field goal drive before the half to take a 31-9 lead over Tulane.

King will not return to the game with a knee injury. There’s no additional information available at this time about his status.

The junior from Manvel is in the midst of a tremendous season in his first full year as the starting quarterback in Houston. King leads the nation in passing touchdowns (35) and ranks No. 7 in rushing scores (13). He’s led Houston to the No. 2 total offense and No. 4 scoring offense in America.

Tune comes into Thursday night with 27 pass attempts for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He previously threw for 6,686 yards and 66 touchdowns in a standout career at Hebron.

In addition to Tune, Houston also has Tennessee transfer Quinten Dormady on the roster. However, he’s only thrown five pass attempts this season.
