SAN ANTONIO -- The UTSA football team is now 3-6 following a brutal loss to UAB this past Saturday where they were dominated on both sides of the ball. UTSA will host the FIU Panthers next week in what will be UTSA’s first home game in nearly a month.

Many people expected the UAB Blazers to beat UTSA, but not by such a wide margin. Despite the extra week UTSA had to get ready for the UAB game, the Roadrunners still looked unprepared and sloppy. Head coach Frank Wilson met with the media on Monday to talk about what went wrong in the 52-3 blowout loss the team suffered on the road Saturday.

UAB started fast against UTSA and never looked back. They went up 35-3 before the midway point of the second quarter and the game was all but over by halftime. Some UTSA fans took to Twitter to jokingly call for a running clock in the second half so that UAB could hurry up and put the ‘Runners out of their misery.

The game was difficult to watch, and there were almost no positive aspects to UTSA’s performance. The Roadrunner defense gave up 419 yards on the ground and 668 yards of total offense. In previous press conferences, Wilson has been adamant that there was an execution problem, but this time he put the blame all on himself.

“Our performance was a direct reflection of the head coach,” said Wilson. “It’s indicative of my inability to have our team motivated to play at a high level.”

UTSA had an extra week to prepare for the UAB matchup as they were coming off their bye week, so you’d think they would have at least competed and put up a challenge. That was far from the case. This coming week, UTSA will host another tough conference opponent. The last three games of the season will all be tough as they have Marshall and Mason Fine led North Texas to close out the year. Wilson is aware that fans and students are frustrated with the teams performance this season, and addressed that, and made a promise.

“Our fans, alumni and university deserve a better product on the football field. We’re better than what we played, and we will be better on Saturday.”

Wilson will have the opportunity to back up his promise of being better on Nov. 10 at the Alamodome when they take on FIU.
