Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury hopes to have all three quarterbacks available for the Red Raiders on Thursday night against TCU, he said on the Big 12 teleconference.

Senior quarterback McLane Carter went out in the first quarter of the season in a 47-27 loss to Ole Miss with a high ankle sprain. He has not played since. Freshman quarterback Alan Bowman also suffered a partially collapsed lung in a 42-34 loss to West Virginia on Sept. 30.

Carter won a three-man quarterback battle in fall camp between him, Bowman and redshirt sophomore Jett Duffey. However, he had just seven pass attempts when he went out against the Rebels.

Despite not starting the opener, going out in the first half against West Virginia and having an additional bye, Bowman ranks No. 9 nationally in total passing yards. He broke the Big 12 freshman record with 605 passing yards against Houston. Bowman also led the Red Raiders to a huge 41-17 win over No. 15 Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

Bowman was not released from the hospital until last Wednesday. Since he didn’t break any ribs, Bowman avoided missing significant time.

Duffey showed some flashes of brilliance after Bowman went out against the Mountaineers. He led the Red Raiders on a 24-7 run against West Virginia at Jones AT&T Stadium. However, Duffey threw a critical pick-six in the fourth quarter to ice the game. But still, Duffey won Mr. Texas Football in 2015. He’s as talented a third-string quarterback as you’ll find in college football.

Kingsbury said all three quarterbacks will get reps this week before a conference matchup with TCU on Thursday night at Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. He declined to name a starting quarterback.

Bowman seemed to entrench himself as the starter following a series of nice performances. However, Kingsbury said he wants to protect Bowman’s health first and foremost. That could impact who starts on Thursday against one of the top defenses in the Big 12.

Texas Tech faces off against TCU at 6:30 p.m. CT at Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN. Click Here to buy tickets to the game.
