Weather is ruining and jumbling the slate of games all over the state. Stay home if driving conditions are tenuous, but if they're not, catch these games tonight. You'll get a good show.

6A: Allen (2-0) at Coppell (2-0)

Coppell was the last team to hand Allen a regular season loss in a thrilling game in 2012. Since then, the Cowboys have given the Eagles some close tests but that's about it.

Allen returns a lot of their core players from last year’s state championship team, however, the school has no shortage of phenomenal talent across the board. This year’s high octane offense features quarterback Grant Tisdale (247 passing yards, 6 TDs) and receiver Theo Wease (174 yards, 4 TDs)— one of the most potent pass-catching duos in the state. Celdon Manning (188 yards, TD) highlights a running back by committee backfield and will look to penetrate a young Coppell defensive front.

Coppell is led by junior signal-caller Drew Cerniglia, who has looked to part in his first two starts for the Cowboys, but offensively all eyes are on star running back Ryan Hirt (302 rushing yards, 5 TD). The Cowboys will look to pound the ball against the Allen defense as Cerniglia continues to develop. High caliber recruits KJ Liggins and Jonathan McGill also pose a threat anytime that they get the ball in their hands. McGill also highlights a Cowboy secondary that will be tasked with slowing down the potent Allen passing game.

5A: Brownsville Veterans Memorial (2-0, 1-0) at Mission Veterans Memorial (1-1, 1-0)

District play began last week in District 16-5A and both of these teams escaped unscathed. The two district favorites have had each other circled on their schedules and will be pitted against one another on Friday night at Tom Landry Stadium.

In order to keep their undefeated record intact, Brownsville Veterans Memorial will turn to quarterback Liam Longoria, who had four touchdowns last week against Brownsville Lopez. Longoria has found success keeping the ball in his hands and moving the chain with his legs and may have the running room against a Mission Vets defense that allowed 276 rushing yards in their week one loss to Mission High.

The star player to watch here is Mission Vets quarterback Landry Gilpin (506 passing yards, 245 rushing yards, 4 TDs). Gilpin is a dual threat signal-caller who more of the state should know, as he's a legitimate contender for this year's Mr. Texas Football award. He will look to connect with speedy receiver Mikey Garcia (254 yards, 3 TDs) down-field. The Patriots' defense will be tested against the high octane Brownsville Vets' offense, however, outside linebacker Demetric Folsom has accounted for 15 total tackles and should be ready for Friday's test.

4A: Orangefield (2-0) at Shepherd (2-0)

To say that Orangefield has been dominant this season is a massive understatement. The Bobcats have been incredible and outscored their first two opponents a combined 102-0. Experienced pro-style quarterback Mason Gonzales has looked to part in the first two bouts. Physical linebacker Blake Bradley, who won all-district honors last season, has been the staple of the Bobcats’ 4-3 defense that hasn’t allowed a score.

After routing rival Coldspring-Oakhurst, Shepherd will likely be able to end that shutout streak as they have notched 103 points this season via their gun wing offense. The Pirates have completed just four passes thus far, but have a powerful stable of running backs who will shoulder the offensive load. Leading that corps is two-way standout David Yates (275 yards, 3 TD).

3A: Whitesboro (2-0) at Gunter (2-0)

Perennial power Gunter hosts up-and-coming Whitesboro in a clash between two of the better undefeated teams in the 3A ranks. Gunter, who shut out Pottsboro last week, boasts a two-headed monster in two-way players Dylan Jantz and Braiden Clopton who both primarily play slot and defensive back. Jantz, who holds collegiate offers from around the country, has spearheaded the signature Gunter pistol offense accounting for 234 yards.

Though a small sample size, Whitesboro has looked legit thus far, with a convincing 37-0 win over 4A Aubrey last week. The Bearcats’ offense, which primarily starts out of the I-formation, is led by quarterback Scout Sanders who garnered 244 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in last week’s cross-classification matchup.

2A: Sonora (2-0) at Mason (2-0)

This cross-classification matchup will also be a clash of two teams that play completely different styles. Sonora’s spread offense has proved to be extremely potent thus far, as the Broncos have tallied 74 points in just two games. The Broncos rolled Lamesa last week 40-17 and quarterback Brian Van Winkle had 281 passing yards and five touchdowns.

The Punchers began the season with an eye-opening win over 3A Wall and followed it up with a romping of Johnson City last week, holding them to just 98 yards of total offense. The win also kept the Punchers 35-game undefeated streak at home intact. The last time Mason lost on their home field was in 2010. The storyline for Mason has been their speedy Wing-T running game, which torches opposing defenses. Mason also boasts a strong defensive front led by linebackers Chandler Buntyn and Jase Eckert.
