Texas A&M is out with a vengeance after falling to No. 2 Clemson in the final minute of the game last weekend. Though this weekend’s matchup against the University of Louisiana-Monroe should be a much easier affair, ULM has some playmakers that should serve as a good warmup with No. 1 Alabama slated for the following weekend.

Here's everything you need to know for the matchup on Saturday.

Texas A&M vs. ULM preview

Kellen Mond follow-up performance

This one is a no-brainer. The sophomore quarterback had a breakout performance against the No. 2 team in the nation in primetime last weekend, amassing 430 yards, three touchdowns, and no turnovers. His performance raised eyebrows around the country, but will he be able to keep this up?

Mond will face a much easier test on Saturday against an inexperienced ULM secondary and should have the luxury of feeding Trayveon Williams — who was virtually shut down by the Clemson front. The signal-caller should also be able to connect more with tight end Jace Sternberger, who was used in more of a blocking role against the Tigers. With Alabama on deck next Saturday, the surging quarterback should use the game as a warm-up to work on timing and different schemes.

A&M linebacking corps vs. ULM QB, RB

The maroon and white were dealt some devastating news this week as Jimbo Fisher announced on Wednesday’s SEC teleconference that Anthony Hines will be out for the season after suffering a lower-body injury against Clemson. The Aggies, who were already razor thin at linebacker before the season started, also lost Ikenna Okeke and Santino Marchiol earlier in the year. Starters Otaro Alaka and Tyrel Dodson are proven SEC linebackers. Past that, question marks abound.

Alaka and Dodson will anchor the 4-2-5 defense, and sophomore Buddy Johnson will rotate in and get some snaps as well. Past that, it seems as if Larry Pryor, who primarily plays safety, would be next in line at the position as he worked out with the unit in some practices during fall camp. The unit will be tested against ULM’s workhorse feature back Derrick Gore, who ran for 104 yards in the War Hawks’ season-opener. ULM dual-threat quarterback Caleb Evans is no pushover either. The preseason Second Team All-Sun Belt pick amassed 346 yards in week one and ran for 13 touchdowns last season. The A&M linebacking unit will be in for a tough test for the second week in a row.

Trayveon Williams Bounce Back

Like they’ve done to virtually every running game that they’ve seen, Clemson’s defensive front suffocated the A&M running game in the first half and the Aggies were forced to move the chains in the air for the majority of the second half. Williams was involved in the passing game via different screen passes. However, he finished the game with just 31 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Williams will face another tough defensive front against ULM, which has allowed just 130 rushing yards in two games played. There should be some holes for the feature back this week after the offensive line had their hands full against the best defensive front in the country. The feature back will need to have a good bounce back week before facing a Clemson-like defensive front next week against Alabama.
