COLLEGE STATION — Following their 28-26 loss to No. 2 Clemson on Saturday night, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher and select players were made available to the media on Monday afternoon.

Here are the highlights from the presser.

Fisher not happy after loss to Clemson

Any speculation about Fisher being content with losing to the No. 2 team by just two points was immediately erased as he took the podium. Fisher opened the press conference stating his dissatisfaction.

“After evaluating the film our kids played very competitively. They played hard, we just have to execute more and play more efficiently,” Fisher said. “I sit up here today and I'm not happy. I'm not very happy at all. There were missed opportunities in that game.”

Fisher also added that he was to blame as much as anyone of his players.

“As coaches, we have to coach them more. We have to put them in better situations and coach them more” Fisher said. “You either coach them or you let it happen and you have to do it more and more until it becomes a habit.”

The mentality from the head coach seems to be pretty telling about how hungry Fisher is to have success, and that his definition of success is being a top program in the nation. The head coach didn’t just accept his massive, guaranteed contract to ease into the end of his career. He wants to earn every cent of it.

Young receivers making big strides

Entering the season, questions surrounded the young A&M receiving corps that doesn’t have a single junior or senior on the roster. The receivers faced their first big test against a stout Clemson secondary on Saturday. They looked the part, amassing 430 receiving yards and some incredibly athletic catches to extend drives.

Sophomore Kendrick Rogers turned heads on Saturday night with 120 receiving yards, more than he had in his entire A&M career prior to the season. He also added his first career touchdown.

“I thought he had great ability when I got here and that if he realized what he could do. He’s gone out and had two really good games and hopefully he will continue that,” Fisher said. “He’s a guy that his the ability to help us in a lot of different ways.”

The unit — which has prided itself on it’s depth and not necessarily having one star receiver — will look to continue their success throughout the season.

Kellen Mond not content after breakout performance

Kellen Mond proved himself on a national stage last Saturday night, throwing for 430 yards, three touchdowns, and no turnovers. Despite the eye-opening performance, Mond was quick to point out his mistakes on Monday.

“Even though a lot of people are saying my performance was really good I felt like I could do a lot better,” Mond said. “I missed a couple throws that I should have made to make the game a lot closer. I missed Quartney Davis on a post route down the field.”

Mond looked incredibly confident on his Saturday after looking frantic at times in his freshman campaign last season. The quarterback’s confidence, in tandem with his ability to read plays at the line of scrimmage, has earned him privileges to call audibles at the line of scrimmage.

“I would probably say none,” Mond said on his ability to call plays at the line last season. “I couldn’t make any Mike calls or anything, I would definitely say that this year I have a lot more freedom in being able to make Mike calls and change the protection.”
