Each week, TexasFootball.com and the U.S. Army join together to select one team from every classification in high school football that demonstrated the qualities exhibited within the Army - those include leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team. Each is awarded the Army Strong Team of the Week by local officials from the U.S. Army at a school assembly or pep rally. CLASS 5A: Abilene Cooper Abilene Cooper outscored rival Abilene 21-0 in the second half to emerge with a 45-28 win and clinch at least a share of the District 3-5A title. Cooper also kept its unbeaten record intact at 9-0 overall, 4-0 in district, and the Cougars can clinch the district title with a win this week against Midland. Cooper QB Clayton Nicholas was the hero of the game, passing for 349 yards and two touchdowns, and he also ran for a score. RB Alford Cooper added 129 rushing yards and three TDs. CLASS 4A: Jacksonville One of the craziest games in Texas high school football history concluded with Jacksonville pulling out an 84-81, 12-overtime victory over Nacogdoches. A 19-yard field goal from Rodrigo Carreon finished the marathon game, which included 56 overtime points for Jacksonville and 53 for Nacogdoches. The teams combined for more than 1,000 total yards. With the win, Jacksonville improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in district play, wrapping up a playoff berth in District 14-4A. CLASS 3A: Fairfield Fairfield solidifed its worst-to-first season with a 42-32 win over Groesbeck. The win moved Fairfield to 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in district play, wrapping up the District 20-3A title. Fairfield was 1-9 a year ago and was predicted to finish fifth in its six-team district in the preseason. CLASS 2A: Poth Poth stayed perfect on the season and clinched the District 14-2A DII title with a 21-14 win over rival Karnes City. Poth (9-0, 5-0) has one of the top defenses in Class 2A -- this was the eighth game in a row in which the Pirates allowed two touchdowns or less, and they've had three shutouts. CLASS 1A: Ganado Ganado wrapped up the District 15-1A DI title with a thorough defeat of rival Yorktown, 42-7. The Indians remained undefeated on the season (9-0) and in district play (3-0) heading into this week's season finale against Flatonia. Ganado has scored more than 40 points in five games this season, including its past two. SIX-MAN: Loraine Loraine kept its perfect record intact with a surprisingly convincing victory over district rival Trent, 74-26. Trent only had one loss coming in, but the Gorillas were no match for the Bulldogs, who scored more than 50 points for the fifth game in a row. Loraine, which was 2-8 in 2009, is now 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in Distrct 7-6M DII play. PRIVATE SCHOOLS: FW Country Day Fort Worth Country Day wrapped up the SPC Division II regular season title by defeating rival Fort Worth Trinity Valley, 38-10. Country Day's Alex Espinoza was the star of the game with a 90-yard touchdown reception and three rushing TDs. Country Day improved to 10-0 on the season, 6-0 in division play. The same two teams will meet this week in the SPC Division II championship game.
