Army Strong Teams of Week 8

Each week, TexasFootball.com and the U.S. Army join together to select one team from every classification in high school football that demonstrated the qualities exhibited within the Army - those include leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team. Each is awarded the Army Strong Team of the Week by local officials from the U.S. Army at a school assembly or pep rally.
CLASS 5A: A&M Consolidated A&M Consolidated pulled off an impressive 24-10 upset against previously unbeaten and state-ranked Copperas Cove to take control of the District 12-5A race. It was the seventh straight win for A&M Consolidated, which clinched a playoff spot and is now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in district play. RB Chris Nutall led the Tigers with 168 rushing yards. CLASS 4A: Victoria East Victoria East seized control of the District 30-4A race with a lopsided 41-25 win over rival Gregory-Portland. Defensive back Steven Martinez had two interceptions in the Victoria East win, which moved the Titans into sole possession of first place with a record of 3-0 in district play and 7-1 overall. CLASS 3A: Navasota Navasota was the underdog coming in but the victor going out after earning a 34-20 win over previously unbeaten Caldwell. Navasota QB Ian Day rushed for two second-half touchdowns to help his team move into sole possession of first place in District 23-3A with a 3-0 record. Navasota is 6-2 overall. CLASS 2A: Ozona The city of Ozona celebrated long after the final gun sounded on the Lions' surprising 31-28 win over previously undefeated Sonora. Kicker Nathan Dehoyos kicked a 37-yard field goal for the winning margin, and RB Kyle Dean was the offensive leader as he rushed for 159 yards and two TDs. Ozona (6-2 overall, 3-0 in district) is now alone in first place in District 13-2A DII. CLASS 1A: Bremond Bremond led from beginning to end as the Tigers posted a 29-14 win over Chilton to take control of the District 10-1A DII title race. Bremond's JOhnathon White ran for two touchdowns and a two-point conversion as the Tigers improved to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in district play. SIX-MAN: Sterling City Sterling City has never made the playoffs in six-man football, but the Eagles got off to a good start toward achieving that goal with a 58-12 win over previously unbeaten Trent in the teams' District 7 DII opener. The win improved Sterling City to 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in district play. Sterling City had a combined record of 7-12 the past two seasons, its first in six-man. PRIVATE SCHOOLS: Austin St. Michael Austin St. Michael's Luke Seeker scored three touchdowns to help his team pull out a hard-fought 35-26 win over rival San Antonio Holy Cross. Seeker finished with 174 rushing yards on 32 attempts. The win lifted St. Michael's record to 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in TAPPS 2-I competition.
