After every weekend of the Texas high school football season, visit this page to find out the candidates for the Player of the Week Award. This honor is awarded to the top performance of the week in Texas High school football. Voting will begin every Monday morning and close Friday at noon.
Week 5 Winner: Smithville QB Ace Fierro
Smithville quarterback Ace Fierro couldn't play much better than he did last Friday in a 56-37 win over Yoakum.
Not only did Fierro pass for 346 yards and five touchdowns, but he did it while only attempting 22 total passes (16 of which were completions.
Not only did Fierro run for 81 yards and two touchdowns, but he did it on only 13 rushing attempts.
For his efforts, Fierro is Texas Football's Player of the Week. His performance stood out on a week when huge statistics were posted around the state.
Fierro had TD passes of 42, 28, 44, 75 and 26 yards. For the season, he has passed for 832 yards and 12 touchdowns with only four interceptions.
Week 5 Candidates:
Sean Ballard, Plano West WR/RB: Had 517 all-purpose yards (236 rushing, 80 receiving, 201 return) in an 84-40 win over McKinney Boyd.
Charles Coleman, CC Carroll RB: Rushed for 305 yards and 4 TDs in a 47-22 win over SA East Central.
Josh Dorman, Birdville QB: Passed for 400 yards and 5 TDs in a 62-35 win over Saginaw.
Ja'Terian Douglas, Arlington Lamar RB: Rushed for 339 yards and 6 TDs in a 56-27 win over Arlington Sam Houston.
Ace Fierro, Smithville QB: Passed for 346 yards and 5 TDs and rushed for two TDs in a 56-37 win over Yoakum.
O.J. Hughes, Victoria Memorial RB: Rushed for 288 yards and 6 TDs in a 55-34 win over South San Antonio.
Case McCoy, Graham QB: Passed for 369 yards and 6 TDs in a 49-48 win over Bridgeport.
Rey Rodriguez, CC Ray QB: Passed for 435 yards and 3 TDs in a 28-0 win over CC Miller.
Dontae Williams, Aldine RB: Rushed for 270 yards and 4 TDs in a 42-21 win over Houston Nimitz.
Luke Woodley, Highland Park QB: Passed for 358 yards and 6 TDs in a 59-12 win over Greenville.
