Army Strong Teams of Week 5
TexasFootball.com is proud to partner with the U.S. Army for the Army Strong Team of the Week throughout the Texas high school football season.
Each week, TexasFootball.com and the U.S. Army join together to select one team from every classification in high school football that demonstrated the qualities exhibited within the Army - those include leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team. Each is awarded the Army Strong Team of the Week by local officials from the U.S. Army at a school assembly or pep rally.
CLASS 5A: Fort Bend Dulles Fort Bend Dulles came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat Fort Bend Austin, 26-17, a remarkable win for Dulles because it was the third time this season the Vikings have come back after trailing by a field goal entering the fourth quarter. It also gave Dulles a win in its District 23-5A Zone B opener and improved the Vikings' overall record to 3-3. CLASS 4A: SA Harlandale Harlandale picked up one of the biggest victories in the program's history with an 18-15 win over Castroville Medina Valley. Harlandale has not had a lot of success against Medina Valley in the past, but quarterback Jake Cardenas and the Harlandale defense had big games as the Indians won their District 28-4A opener and improved to 5-1 on the season. Cardenas threw two touchdown passes. CLASS 3A: Caldwell Caldwell kept its perfect record intact by knocking off previously unbeaten Brookshire Royal, 21-15. Caldwell improved to 5-0 behind a big effort by running back Kedrin Shepard, who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Caldwell's defense came up huge against Royal star running back Brandon Williams, limiting him to 44 yards on 22 carries. CLASS 2A: Marion Marion jumped out to a two-touchdown lead against defending Class 1A Division I state champion Goldthwaite, then held on late for an exhilirating 21-19 victory. Marion quarterback Sean Hesler led the offense with 103 rushing yards on 17 attempts and 116 passing yards. Running back Doug Giles added two touchdown runs. Marion improved to 3-2 heading into its district opener against Comfort. CLASS 1A: Stamford In a battle of unbeaten teams, Stamford was able to keep its perfect record intact with a 32-26, double-overtime victory over Archer City. Cameron McDonald's 21-yard touchdown run in the second overtime gave Stamford the victory. Stamford improved to 6-0 on the season heading into its big district opener against Albany. SIX-MAN: Petersburg Petersburg improved to 4-1 on the season with an impressive 43-16 victory against powerful Meadow, ranked No. 6 in Six-Man Division I by TexasFootball.com. Petersburg limited Meadow to 202 total yards and a pair of touchdowns, a tremendous defensive performance in six-man football. Offensively, Petersburg was led by quarterback Blake Smith, who rushed for 236 yards and passed for 56 more. PRIVATE SCHOOLS: Austin Hyde Park Hyde Park forced six turnovers and handed previously unbeaten Waco Reicher its first loss of the season, 41-30. Hyde Park scored 24 points in the third quarter to take control of the game. The Panthers improved to 4-2 on the season, while three-time defending TAPPS Division III state champion Reicher dropped to 4-1.
