Army Strong Teams of Week 3
TexasFootball.com is proud to partner with the U.S. Army for the Army Strong Team of the Week throughout the Texas high school football season.
Each week, TexasFootball.com and the U.S. Army join together to select one team from every classification in high school football that demonstrated the qualities exhibited within the Army - those include leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team. Each is awarded the Army Strong Team of the Week by local officials from the U.S. Army at a school assembly or pep rally.

Stony Point faced its toughest challenge of the young season Friday and emerged with an impressive 46-29 victory against DeSoto. Both teams were unbeaten coming into the game, and DeSoto jumped out to a 21-20 halftime lead. But Stony Point used a 19-point burst in the second half to keep its unbeaten record intact. Sam Kelley led Stony Point with 182 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
San Antonio Memorial snapped a 43-game losing streak that dated back to 2005 with a 19-13 win against Austin Eastide Memorial on Thursday. The losing streak had been the longest active streak in Texas. Quarterback Nigel Cardenas scored the winning touchdown on a 6-yard run with 11 seconds left in the game.
La Vega rallied from a 17-point deficit late in the third quarter to take an exciting 37-36 win over previously unbeaten Mexia. La Vega has now played four consecutive games decided by 10 points or less. With back-to-back wins, the Pirates improved to 2-2.
The game started more than an hour late because of lightning, but Rogers was ready when the ball was teed up and the action began. The Eagles overwhelmed Class 1A's top-ranked team, Mart, in a 41-20 victory. Rogers RB Cody Weir rushed for 142 yards and four TDs to lead the Eagles.
CLASS 1A: Cayuga
Cayuga faced a tall task this season replacing coach Tommy Allison and its top two players, RB Traylon Shead and QB Malcolme Kennedy, from last year's state championship team. But so far, new coach Greg Jenkins has maintained the Wildcats' winning ways, and they remained unbeaten Friday with an exciting 20-19 overtime win over Dawson.
Garden City scored the most points in six-man football Friday, but the Bearkats also put on a tremendous defensive display in the second half en route to a 104-56 win against O'Donnell. After allowing 56 firs-thalf points, Garden City held O'Donnell to negative yardage and zero points in the third quarter to win by the mercy rule.
It was state champion against state champion when TAPPS champ Fort Worth Nolan took on 2A champ Pilot Point on Friday. Nolan had two running backs go over 100 yards in a 36-29 victory.
