Army Strong Teams of Week 14
Class 5A: Klein
Klein continued its surprising run through the Class 5A-Division II playoffs with an impressive 31-7 win over Tyler John Tyler. Klein's Dakota Barnes had a huge game, rushing for 193 yards and two touchdowns. Klein advances to face Abilene in the state semifinals.
Class 4A: Pearland Dawson
Dawson, a second-year program, showed once again that playoff experience is overrated as the Eagles rolled to a 28-11 win over Friendswood. Quarterback Darian Lazard led the way with two touchdown runs. Dawson advances to face Lake Travis in the state semifinals.
Class 3A: La Grange
La Grange won an overtime thriller against Sinton, 34-27, to survive in the 3A-Division II playoffs. La Grange's Brandon Wilkerson intercepted a Sinton pass to seal the win. La Grange advances to face Carthage in the state semifinals.
Class 2A: Callisburg
Callisburg's outstanding defense came up with a big play to secure a 21 -13 win over previously unbeaten McGregor. Callisburg's Scott Fuquay had a quarterback sack on a pivotal fourth-down play in the final two minutes to stop McGregor's last drive. Callisburg advances to face Bushland in the state semifinals.
Class 1A: Stratford
Stratford's defense saved the day for an offense that turned the ball over six times in a 38-28 win over New Deal. Stratford's defense prevented New Deal from turning any of the turnovers into points. Stratford advances to face Albany in the state semifinals.
Six-Man: Roscoe Highland
Roscoe Highland came up with interceptions to end five consecutive Walnut Springs drives en route to a 74-38 win. Cameron Cox returned two interceptions for touchdowns and scored four more touchdowns on offense to lead Hornets. Highland advances to face Borden County in the Division II state championship.
Private Schools: Waco Reicher
Waco Reicher won its third consecutive TAPPS state title with an impressive 35-28 win over a strong Bullard Brook Hill team. Quarterback Matt Hicks rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns to lead Reicher.
