Congratulations to Edinburg Vela RB Robert Guerra, the Week 1 winner of the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week award, presented by Wells Fargo. The 5-6, 160-pound senior ran for 359 yards and a Rio Grande Valley record 9 touchdowns in 63-62 double-overtime win over Victoria East.

Vela fans can also be praised for their part in this honor, as they voted often enough to make sure that Robert received the most votes in the poll on TexasFootball.com.

Congratulations to all 10 candidates for this week’s award: Gilmer QB Poppy Brown, Groveton QB Glenn Thornton, San Angelo Central QB Cal Vincent, Cleburne QB Tre’Von Bradley, Trinity Christian Addison QB Court Walker, Henderson WR Trestan Ebner, Robinson WR Braxton Ashcraft, Friendswood QB Tyler Page and El Paso El Dorado QB Cedarious Barfield.

Every Monday at noon, TexasFootball.com will announce ten candidates for that week’s award, based on the previous week’s on-field performance.
