Uncommitted Seniors

As we reach the last two weeks of the National Letter of Intent (NLI) signing period some uncommitted seniors are probably wondering what opportunities are available to them still.  At NCSA, we wanted to offer up a few reminders on what exactly the signing period is and also point out what opportunities are still out there for 2011's at this point.

NLI Signing Period

  • Runs from the first Wednesday in February (2/2 this year) until April 1st
  • During any time within this period 1-A (FBS), 1-AA (FCS) and NCAA D-2 schools can sign players to athletic scholarships
  • Most FBS and FCS programs will finish their scholarship class on or after the first day of this period, also known as Signing Day
  • Non-NLI programs do not have to abide by this signing period and can sign prospects outside of this period
  • Non-NLI Programs by division level
    • FBS: Service academies (Army, Navy, and Air force)
    • FCS: Programs participating in the Ivy, Pioneer, and Patriot leagues
    • D-2: All programs participate in the NLI
    • D-3: No programs are a part of the NLI
    • NAIA: No programs are a part of the NLI
    • Junior College: No programs are a part of the NLI
    • Prep Schools: No programs are a part of the NLI

Opportunities still available

  • 1-A: Preferred walk-ons (Very specific position needs)
  • 1-AA: Possible few scholarships remaining (Very specific position needs).  Preferred walk-ons, *Non NLI schools: Usually still looking
  • D-2: Scholarship and Walk-ons
  • NAIA: Scholarship and Walk-ons
  • D-3: Still looking for all players
  • JC: Just starting
  • Prep: Just Starting

If you would like to learn more about the process, we recently did a webcast discussing opportunities still available for seniors.  This webcast was hosted by former college football coaches Randy Taylor and Matt Roe and is included in the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9mfrlD8LVw.

Best of luck in finding a place to play next year!
