Power Poll -- Week Two

Debuts, debacles and demolitions littered the Texas college football scene in the second week of the season.

There was Texas A&M's much ballyhooed debut in the SEC, a loss to Florida. There was TCU's debut as a Big XII team, a demolition of poor Grambling State. There was Texas Tech's welcoming of Texas State to the FBS ranks, a Red Raider rout in San Marcos. And there was a Rice resurgence in Lawrence, Kansas.

What effect did the week that was have on our Power Poll, ranking the 12 FBS teams in Texas? Well, there's still a lot of movement from week-to-week.

DCTF's 2012 Texas College Power Poll — Week Two

# School Last Week Rank
1 TCU Horned Frogs 2
Jake Shaw: After all the offseason strife, Saturday was a thing of beauty for Patterson and the Frogs.
2 Texas Longhorns 1
Brad Hilliard:

The Longhorn offense looked good against Wyoming, and the defense shined against New Mexico.  They'll need both units playing at their ability to come away from The Grove with a third straight W to open the season.

3 Baylor Bears 3
Adam Hochfelder: Any school that produces RGIII and score 59 points in week one gets a bounce to my top spot even if they did not play!
4 Texas Tech Red Raiders 5
Greg Tepper: The wins have come against an FCS team and a team playing its second FBS game, but you could argue that no team in Texas has looked as impressive through two game as the Red Raiders. Is the Tuberville Turnaround happening?
5 Texas A&M Aggies 4
Jake Shaw: I'm beginning to wonder what's going on in the Aggie locker room at halftime.
6 Rice Owls 11
Brad Hilliard: After seeing UCLA take down Nebraska, that Owls' loss doesn't look bad does it?  Couple that with a clutch road win over a Big 12 team and this bunch is showing some promise.
7 SMU Mustangs 9
Rick Epstein: SMU takes out some Frustration against a much weaker Stephen F. Austin team
8 North Texas Mean Green 8
Adam Hochfelder: Is it me, or are the Mean Green a bit meaner than in year’s past?
9 UTEP Miners 7
Jake Shaw: It's rivalry week in El Paso for a Miner team desperately needing a win.
10 Texas State Bobcats 6
Rick Epstein: Bobcat fans, meet Earth.  Don’t plan your holiday season around a bowl game just yet.
11 UTSA Roadrunners 10
Greg Tepper: Struggling a bit against an FCS team doesn't bode well for the future, but then again, this season isn't about this season. And right now, all systems are go for a strong FBS debut for the Roadrunners.
12 Houston Cougars 12
Adam Hochfelder: A wise man once told me, it is always darkest before it goes pitch black.  I hope for Thad Levine’s sake, that is not true.
