Every year, we roll out new features in our magazines. For the 2011 Summer Edition, we introduced an expanded national college preview, giving people an opportunity to put their favorite Lone Star State squads in the context of the entire national spectrum.

One of the things we've added to the upcoming 2012 Winter Edition is something I'm really excited about: regional high school reviews. You know already that we go classification-by-classification to recap everything in the state...but this year, we decided to take it a step further. Instead of just segmenting the state by class, we're also going to recap the year in each region of the state. From north to south, east to west, we've got a total of seven full pages dedicated to seven different regions across the state, recapping the biggest storylines in your neck of the woods.

And you know how much we (and, in talking with readers, you) love rankings. So, in addition to a features story on each region, we've unveiled our regional postseason Top 5 for each region across the state. It's our definitive way of saying yes, these are the best teams from this part of the state.

Today, we're going to unveil the five teams that will comprise our postseason Top 5 for our West Texas regional review. Remember: these are in no particular order -- you'll have to buy (or win) a magazine to see how we rank them.

San Angelo Central
It was a banner year for Bobcats, notching their first nine-win season since 2003

Abilene
Hard to debate coach Steve Warren's crew, who continue to be one of the elite teams in West Texas.

Amarillo
Coach Mel Maxfield has very quietly put together a rising program out in Amarillo.

Abilene Cooper
QB Clayton Nicholas was spectacular -- and had a flair for the dramatic.

Stephenville
If it weren't for injuries, we might be talking about the state champion Yellowjackets.
