Denton Guyer is making the big move this fall from Class 4A to Class 5A, but first the Wildcats will hone their passing game in the summer 7-on-7 season.
Led by quarterback J.W. Walsh, Guyer should be a force in 7-on-7. Walsh led Guyer to the quarterfinals of last year's 7-on-7 state tournament, then followed that up with a prolific junior season. He passed for 2,599 yards and a 27-6 TD-INT ratio in 2009. Walsh is one of the state's top-ranked quarterback recruits and has already given his pledge to Oklahoma State.
Running back Treavon Walton is expected to emerge as a new big-play threat for Guyer in 2010. He ran for 339 yards last season and will be the featured back this year. He also is showing up on the recruiting radar, though he does not yet have any FBS offers.
On the defensive side, Guyer's 7-on-7 team will feature DB Josh Stewart, an athletic cornerback who already has committed to Texas A&M. He had 62 tackles and five interceptions in 2009.
