In the 49th edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, available on newsstands Monday, June 16th, Texas Tech earns the highly sought-after coverboy slot, featuring head coach Mike Leach, WR Michael Crabtree, and QB Graham Harrell. The accompanying cover story, written by Kevin Sherrington, proclaims the Red Raiders to be the “Best in Texas” in 2008.

The story puts the 2008 team’s chances at winning the Big 12 title in perspective, comparing the current Red Raiders to the best teams in the program’s history.

“Texas Tech has been the most consistent team since the inception of the Big 12, but this year, as the cover illustrates, we really believe the Red Raiders will take a step forward and become a major factor on the national scene,” said Jake Shaw, managing editor.

This year’s magazine will again cover college and high school football in Texas as no other publication can. Among the standard features in the 2008 edition are:

  • The Reebok Super Team and Texas Top 300, showcasing the top high school talent in Texas;
  • The State Farm High School Top 25 rankings;
  • The Writers’ Poll, which offers picks from the state’s scribes for conference champs and opinions on issues around the world of football in Texas;
  • The annual college All-Texas Team; and
  • Reviews of each Division I college program’s signing class and look-backs at their ’03 classes.

New features for 2008 include:

  • TexasFootball.com’s Take: The partner Web site of the magazine takes an outside-the-box look at all the 11-man high school classifications, picking a “dream tour” schedule, players to watch, picks for dark horses, and preseason all-state teams;
  • The Art and Science of Realignment: DCTF gets a backstage pass to the biennial realignment process, plus forecasts what could be a major change to the process; and
  • The DCTF Flashback examines the whereabouts of former Longhorn Lance Gunn, a key cog in the UT defensive backfield in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The magazine is also available for ordering online by clicking here.

Saturday night, the cover was first introudced on Fox Sports Net Southwest's Under the Lights series. The show will re-air Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and at 10 p.m. Monday.
