Power Poll -- Week Eight
Power Poll -- Week Eight

By the TexasFootball.com Staff

Between Texas Tech falling to Kansas State, A&M throttling Auburn, TCU falling short in Stillwater, Texas barely escaping Lawrence and Baylor leaving Ames with a loss, there's a lot to consider when assessing the Texas college football landscape.

So, what in the world do we do with our Power Poll, our weekly ranking of the 12 FBS programs in Texas?

DCTF's 2012 Texas College Power Poll — Week Eight

# School Last Week Rank
1 Texas A&M Aggies 2
Adam Hochfelder: In a very down year for most Texas schools, the Aggies are the exception. Suddenly, their move to SEC looks more promising than what most people thought.
2 Texas Tech Red Raiders 1
Jake Shaw: It's hard to penalize a team for a road loss to one of the three best teams in America.
3 Texas Longhorns 4
Greg Tepper: The Longhorns escaped Lawrence by barely avoiding what would've been the worst loss of the year for a Texas team -- yes, worse than Rice losing to Memphis and SMU losing to Tulane -- and soldier on. The good news: maybe the defense is rounding into form.
4 TCU Horned Frogs 3
Jake Shaw: The blueprint is there for stopping WVU's offense. Now, the Frogs just have to execute it.
5 Baylor Bears 5
Adam Hochfelder: Is it starting to seem possible that the RGIII run was an outlier and that Baylor simply is a bottom-of-the-pack Big 12 team? Art Briles simply does not know how to field a good defense.
6 SMU Mustangs 6
Greg Tepper: A nice homecoming win over Memphis is good enough, but what's even better is that Garrett Gilbert didn't throw an interception for the first time since September...of last year.
7 Houston Cougars 7
Adam Hochfelder: Bowl aspirations are still alive after victory over UTEP. However, the Coogs might have dug too deep an early hole.
8 Rice Owls 11
Jake Shaw: The Owls live to see another day. The final three games are very winnable, too.
9 Texas State Bobcats 9
Greg Tepper: It was nice to see the Bobs hang with a pretty good San Jose State team, at least for a half. The next step for Dennis Franchione is teaching his team how to finish.
10 North Texas Mean Green 8
Adam Hochfelder: That was a tough loss to a tough Sun Belt squad. That said, the match of Mean Green vs Blue Raiders almost sounds like a Japanese horror movie. The outcome was sure scary for North Texas.
11 UTEP Miners 10
Jake Shaw: Houston overmatched UTEP, but you've gotta admire the Miners for not giving up and trying to make a game of it.
12 UTSA Roadrunners 12
Greg Tepper: These are the growing pains, Roadrunners fans. This is what your team, in its first FBS season and second season overall, should be going through. This is normal. Frustrating, but normal.
