Power Poll -- Week Three
Power Poll -- Week Three

By the TexasFootball.com Staff

Texas was very impressive -- at least offensively -- against Ole Miss. Texas A&M clobbered SMU. Texas Tech hammered another lowly opponent. Baylor played with its food before hitting the gas against Sam Houston State. TCU made its Big XII debut with a sloppy win over the worst team in the conference. North Texas lost, but impressed with their effort against Kansas State.

So, what does it all mean for our Power Poll, ranking the 12 FBS teams in Texas? Let's take a look.

DCTF's 2012 Texas College Power Poll — Week Three

# School Last Week Rank
1 Texas Longhorns 2
Adam Hochfelder: Offense reminded me of Longhorns circa 2005 (Vince and Co.), defense reminded me of 1997 (Mackovic and Co.). Still, winning on road against an SEC team by 5 touchdowns is worthy of accolades
2 TCU Horned Frogs 1
Rick Epstein: Sloppy win for the Frogs. They will not be able to get away with that against the upper tier of the Big 12
3 Texas Tech Red Raiders 4
Brad Hilliard: We’ll learn more about the Red Raiders in their quest for revenge against Iowa State in Ames than we did in all three of their dominant non-conference wins combined.
4 Texas A&M Aggies 5
Greg Tepper: Johnny Manziel alternated between looking like a wily veteran and a first-time starter, but the good news for the Aggies is that he's spent more time looking like the former than the latter.
5 Baylor Bears 3
Jake Shaw: The Bears better hope the second-half team against Sam Houston State is closer to their real identity.
6 North Texas Mean Green 8
Rick Epstein: Another respectable road loss for the Mean Green. This team WILL be bowl eligible by season's end.
7 UTEP Miners 9
Adam Hochfelder: Miners win a big rivalry game. I like how they have played this year overall, and it looks like the Miners are primed for conference play.
8 Rice Owls 6
Greg Tepper: The good news is that Rice has looked better in each of their games since the debacle against UCLA. The bad news: they're 1-2, and I'm not sure how many more wins there are left on the schedule.
9 UTSA Roadrunners 11
Jake Shaw: One final tuneup before UTSA finally plays a program that's been an FBS team longer than they have.
10 SMU Mustangs 7
Brad Hilliard: Did June Jones’ near-departure to Arizona State drive a wedge between him and his players?  This is a team playing with very little passion right now.
11 Texas State Bobcats 10
Jake Shaw: The Bobcats needed the bye week to recover.
12 Houston Cougars 12
Greg Tepper: 0-3 is discouraging enough, but it gets even more discouraging when you dive into the numbers, like the one that says that Houston ranks 122nd out of 124 teams nationally in total defense.
