Houston Christian EDGE defender Jalyx Hunt ended a long wait for Non-FBS players seeking a call in the 2024 NFL Draft when the Philadelphia Eagles selected him in the third round. He is the first player in the history of the HCU program selected in the NFL Draft.

Hunt was the first non-FBS player to be selected in the first two rounds of the draft, which is noteworthy considering the last time a non-FBS player was not selected in the first two rounds of the draft was 15 years ago.

The Eagles selected Hunt with the 31st pick (94th overall) of the third round. The DeBary, Fla. native began his career as a 195-pound safety at Cornell. He moved to linebacker when he transferred to HCU in 2022. Hunt was named 2023 Defensive Player of the Year in the Southland Conference.

Hunt’s draft stock soared after his performances in the Reese’s Senior Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine. While considered undersized by some scouts, Hunt scored well among fellow EDGE defenders at the combine, posting a 4.64-second time in the 40-yard dash and a 37 1/2-inch vertical jump.
