Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is gearing up for the Feb. 1 release of the 2012 Winter Edition with a special preview of what you can find in the magazine (currently available for pre-order here). Well, the magazine is completely done from an editorial standpoint! That’s right: managing editor Travis Stewart gave the final go-ahead to send the magazine to the printer, and the 2012 Winter Edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine will begin hitting shelves across the state on February 1!
I’m especially excited about this year’s Winter Edition, not only because it’s my first Winter Edition to help put together as a member of the DCTF staff, but also because of how in-depth we went this season. There are new features everywhere in the Winter Edition.
But sometimes, you’ve just got to play the hits. There are a few things that people always look forward to about the Winter Edition, and one of them is the Postseason Rankings. Who’s going to finish where in the Top 25 (or Top 10) in their respective classes?
I’ve been authorized to share a few of the candidates for the Top 10s in Class 1A – remember: we treat Division I and Division II as separate entities, and each division gets its own Top 10.
There are a few teams you know will be in their Top 10, specifically the state champions: Mason in Division I, Tenaha in Division II. But here are, in no particular order, a few of the candidates to round out the Top 10s in Class 1A.
Division I
Muenster
It’s hard to ignore the Hornets’ defenses, which held six of its 13 opponents under ten points, including a whopping four shutouts.
Ganado
The Indians’ season might have been short-circuited early in the playoffs by eventual champion Mason, but make no mistake: Ganado was great.
Albany
It’s a rare feat to have the same player lead your team in both rushing and passing, but that’s what QB Jake Bumguardner did this season.
Division II
Wellington
State semifinalist? Hard-nosed rusher in RB Francisco Cruz? Surgical passer in QB Klark Ashmore? Sounds like a Top 10 team to me.
Springlake-Earth
The Wolverines started off slow, finishing the regular season with a 5-5 record, but their sometimes-ugly style translated to postseason success.
Mount Enterprise
If it weren’t for district bunkmate Tenaha, we’d be talking about Mt. E as a legitimate elite squad.
